Six physicians from West Bengal have gone on to become API's national president: Dr J C Banerjea (1956), Dr Shyamal Sen (1987), Dr Sukumar Mukherjee (1994), Dr Monotosh Panja (2003), Dr Amal Kr Banerjee (2012) and Dr Jyotirmoy Pal (2025) — all of whom also served as Dean, Indian College of Physicians. The Chapter has organised four National Conferences (APICON) in Kolkata, held its first Annual Conference in 1993 at Haldia Dock Complex, and its first Eastern Zonal Conference in 1995.
